How to Calculate Age Limit for CSS/PMS?

The age limit for appearing in the CSS/PMS exams is 21 to 30 years. Your age is calculated based on the last day of December in the year before the exam. However, there are some cases where age relaxation is allowed.

  • If you are from the Buddhist community, Scheduled Castes, or recognized tribes living in areas like Balochistan or Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the age limit is extended to 32 years.
  • Candidates with a domicile from Gilgit Baltistan (GB) or Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) also have an age limit of 32 years.
  • If you are a government employee who has been working in the same job for at least 2 years, your age limit is also 32 years.

Parts of the CSS Exam

 

The CSS (Central Superior Services) Exam in Pakistan is divided into the following parts:

  1. Written Examination
    • Total Marks: 1200
    • The written exam consists of 6 compulsory subjects (600 marks) and six optional subjects (600 marks).
    • Compulsory Subjects (600 Marks):
      • Essay (100 marks)
      • English (Precis and Composition) (100 marks)
      • General Science & Ability (100 marks)
      • Current Affairs (100 marks)
      • Pakistan Affairs (100 marks)
      • Islamic Studies OR Comparative Study of Major Religions (for non-Muslims) (100 marks)
    • Optional Subjects (600 Marks):
    • Candidates choose optional subjects from the prescribed syllabus, grouped by categories, based on their interests and academic background.
  2. Medical Examination
    • Candidates who pass the written exam must undergo a medical examination to ensure they are physically and mentally fit for civil service.
    • The medical test includes general fitness, eyesight, and other physical health parameters.
  3. Psychological Assessment
    • This part evaluates the candidate’s personality, mental aptitude, leadership qualities, and decision-making skills.
    • It includes written psychological tests and group discussions, followed by an interview with a psychologist.
  4. Viva Voce (Interview)
    • Total Marks: 300
    • Candidates who qualify in the written exam, medical exam, and psychological assessment are called for a final interview.
    • The interview tests the candidate’s knowledge, communication skills, confidence, and suitability for civil services.

Eligibility Criteria for CSS Exam

  • To be eligible for the CSS exam:

    • You must have at least 14 years of qualification / simple graduation in any field.
    • Your age must be within the specified limit as given above.

Marks Distribution

  • Written Examination: 1200 marks
  • Viva Voce (Interview): 300 marks
  • Total: 1500 marks

Additional Notes

    • Passing Criteria:
      • Candidates must score at least 40% marks in each compulsory subject, 33% marks in each optional subject, and 50% marks overall to pass the written exam.
      • A minimum of 100 out of 300 marks is required in the viva voce.
